What Can I Do To Help?

People write to us and ask how they change the system. Here are some of Eugene Fischer’s suggestions:

  1. Be compassionate to non-violent offenders who are convicted for drug related charges. Many times people judge without knowing the problems.
  2. Support a change in political leadership. The democrats have been willing to look at the drug laws and parole issues whereas Republicans usually do not.
  3. Support new parole bills to reduce mandatory minimum life sentences. Congressman Danny Davis of Chicago submitted two bills which were not passed last year. Kenny Linn of FedCure is helping Danny Davis create a new bill.
  4. Tell your friends, family and others that the penal system is broken, and with the country under financial crisis, the penal system is too expensive to maintain as it is. The US spends $9 billion annually with no rehabilitation of prisoners and no decrease in prisoners.
  5. Use the pre-formatted message below to send a message to your Congressperson asking them to work to re-instate the Federal Parole system. We've provided two links to help you find your Congressperson where you can use their online contact form to send them this message! Dear Congressman, I support reinstating a federal parole system as described here:

PETITION TO BRING BACK FEDERAL PAROLE

Federal parole was eliminated in 1987. Currently, no matter what a prisoner does to show his or her rehabilitation, he or she must complete the entire sentence less a nominal good behavior allotment. There are many prisoners who are first time, non-violent prisoners who have extremely long sentences, even life sentences, and who offer no threat to society if released under a reinstated parole system. Early release under a reinstated parole system could be determined by the prisoner’s adjustment in prison, the work toward rehabilitation that the prisoner has performed, as well factors such as non-violence, whether the crime is a first offense, and the probability of recidivism. I support the introduction of a federal bill which would allow a prisoner to apply for parole after doing 1/3 of his or her sentence or 10 years, whichever is less. Such parole eligibility should be for all offenses and a parole commission shall determine if the prisoner merits parole.

.  As of January 2008, I have requested the United State Supreme Court make a decision as to why I am blocked on newly discovered evidence of my actual innocence.  I am blocked also on the Richardson error (non-unanimity of jury) – a constitutional error in my trial.  Is the US system of justice really only a copy of what existing in England before the Magna Carta?

I am legally innocent of the continuing criminal enterprise.  I am a 67 year old man who has spent 20 years in prison and wants to be with his family again.
